Carbide nail drill bits are made from tungsten carbide, a very hard and durable material. They typically have sharp, machined flutes (cutting edges) designed for efficient removal of product and natural nail material.

Carbide bits are ideal for removing hard materials like acrylic, hard gel, and dip powder. They are also excellent for cuticle work (with extreme caution), reducing bulk, and shaping the free edge.

Always use light pressure and a gentle touch. Let the bit do the work. Use a “feathering” or “gliding” motion—avoid holding it in one spot to prevent friction heat and damage. Work at a 45-degree angle or parallel to the nail surface, and never drill into the natural nail bed or sidewalls.

Carbide bits can be fully sterilized. Clean debris with a stiff brush. Sterilize in an autoclave (steam) or dry heat sterilizer. They can also be disinfected with an EPA-registered hospital-grade disinfectant according to the manufacturer’s instructions.

Carbide bits are generally used at lower to medium speeds, typically between 5,000 and 15,000 RPM. Start lower when removing thick product and increase slightly for final shaping. Always stay within a controllable speed range to prevent overheating and injury.
